kolovi elia lesvos

The kolovi, or as it’s commonly called, the Mytilene olive, is the most common olive variety on the island, accounting for approximately 70%, and is primarily found in the southern and eastern parts of Lesvos.

It doesn’t thrive in high-altitude areas, and the soils don’t require special cultivation or necessarily need to be rich.

The trees that bear kolovi olives don’t grow very tall, have irregular branches, and relatively broad foliage.

Its oil content reaches 30% when the fruit has developed sufficiently and under favourable weather conditions in the 3-4 weeks of its flowering. This variety produces exceptionally high-quality oil with a strong aroma and a mild flavour and is considered one of the best oil-producing varieties in Greece.
